Winter Europe Trip 1st December 2022 (Thurs) Day 5

It's already Day 5 of the trip, and we started to wake up later, finally got a bit more adjusted to the winter timing. I managed to wake up at 5am instead of 3am like the previous few days, partly due to the long journey the previous day. The stay at Radisson Blu Bergen was not cheap at 370 SGD per night, but we loved the breakfast spread. When we went for breakfast at 7am, it was still early and totally dark outside. We took our time to enjoy the breakfast spread, quite similar to their sister branch in Oslo.

No crowd yet as it was early

Lots of bread

P fell in love with cheese here

Look at that, yummy!

Ample seating as we were early

Muffins and sweet cakes

The hot food was my favourite

Our first round

My breakfast hohoho

Straight from the kitchen for the hot food

Anyway, as we have a few days in Bergen, we decided to head back to the room and get some rest before heading out again to walk around the city.

We are in Bergen!

It was quiet in the winter but summer was supposed to be crowded

The view across our hotel

In general, it was hard to find a place we can do our laundry in the whole of Norway. They dont have those coin operated laundromat unlike other cities and as this is already the fifth day into our trip, we feel like doing our laundry before we set off on the cruise. I found a laundromat about a km or so from our hotel and we gathered our stuff, place it into two large bags and set off to look for the shop. It's a traditional laundromat and the staff told us they will wash and fold our clothes at a whooping $42 SGD. It's the most expensive laundry we have done in our life but since we already walked all the way there, we decided to just go ahead with it.

Hot chocolate tasted really nice during winter hols

We sat down outside the shop to enjoy our mid day snack

Nice bakery

We wandered down the streets after dropping off our clothes for a good wash and after walking a few hundred metres, we saw some really nice bakes and we stopped to get some snacks since it was near 2pm and we hadnt have our lunch.

Very nice view of the nearby houses

On our way to the christmas market

We spotted the christmas market on the bus when heading to bryggen the previous night. It was only a fifteen minutes walk away so we slowly made our way there. We passed Bergen city area and there were many shops and even malls along the way.

Xmas food stuff

Thai food

We reached the christmas market area, it was not super big scale but certainly bigger than the one in Tromso. In fact, we went to quite a few christmas markets in Europe during the trip and this was the one we spent the most time at.

P totally fell in love with cheese during the trip

The potatoes crisp that had P craving for them days later

Everything you see here is actually chocolate

I knew by now that P loved interacting with birds

Eye catching carousel

That's me on the right

It was actually quite chilly when the sun went down but we took our time to look around. We sat around the nearby lake and there were many pigeons and birds flying around waiting for someone to feed them.

Us actually posing at the portaloos

That's me!

A very cosy corner to get some warmth, saw this in Tromso too

P warming up his hands at the fireplace

The boss of this christmas plants store left logs for the fireplace

Very nice view of the christmas market from across the lake

4pm and the sun is setting

We wandered around till 430pm and decided to head back to bryggen area to look for dinner. We were kind of having a early dinner since we missed lunch.

Loved the lighted windows and the hilly backdrop

Loved the christmassy feel in Norway

The cute fluffy little 'begger'

Mcdonald's at the city area

P was craving for steak so we found a steakhouse near to the Bryggen area. I would say the steak tasted nicer than the expensive dinner we had the previous night, the portion was small so I ordered some starters and dessert wine for myself.

The norwegians can do their steak better than Germans

P's steak with gratin and my buffalo's wings

Big Horn steakhouse was not too bad

Stopped by at Way Nor to get the city magnets

Back to our hotel area

P's favourite dessert

It was only 7pm when we finished dinner, bought some souvenirs and got back to the hotel. We decided to go back early and just nuah in the room as that's one of the best things to do in this weather.
