Winter Europe Trip 13th December 2022 (Tuesday) Day 17

(This posted is written on 29th October 2023, I finally have time as the school year is coming to an end and I really missed our Europe trip) *Look at that, I managed to update my travel journal till Day 17!

Soft and hard boiled eggs

Simple but nice breakfast
After two weeks plus of eating Europe style breakfast, we were not too keen about it at this point so the time we woke up and have breakfast got later and later (as compared to the very jet lagged days when we first arrived in Oslo). This was one of the last few hotel breakfast we had for this trip, it was simple but really good enough. After breakfast, we went back to bed an slept again, only going out when it was almost 3pm.

Weird they had those Chinese deities with this decor

The lobby actually looked cosy in day time

More Chinese deities statues and Chinese medicine hall cabinet

Even though we have left Tromso and the sun was up for hours at Amsterdam, we still felt lazy and took naps after breakfast. I guess its a dream to travel full time but our energy level did not allow to us to do that even at this age, not to mention after retirement. After two weeks plus away, we could feel the drain in our energy level and became very slow travelers.

However, we were only in Amsterdam for two nights and we’ll be leaving the next day for Brussels, therefore we had to get out and explore. The temperature in Amsterdam was not that low, but once we stepped out we felt that it was really cold that day.

Tall colourful buildings are signature of Amsterdam

Sun was setting by the time we went out

Interesting decor at the windows

Ladies worked behind these at night

Amsterdam has been on our bucket list as we had always wondered how it is really like, but I still felt that there are more to see in Netherlands than this city. Perhaps another time. Hopefully we can visit more of this country than sin city, somehow I was a little uncomfortable being surrounded by sex and drugs here. I do feel safe though, although our hotel decor and lighting is spooky lolx

Yummy desserts

This building selling Chinese stuff is near our hotel

Fun shop selling all sorts of rubber ducks, we bought one!

The front of the shop

It’s a sign that we’ll end up with Kobe

Febo is featured in many videos when Amsterdam is mentioned

We tried to walk to a church, but it was too cold and P was so intrigued with all the shopfronts that we did not leave the canal area. We chanced upon Febo, the shop selling fried stuff vending machine style and decided to have a quick break there since we did not have lunch. It was still quite cold inside the shop (not as powerful heating as compared to Norway) and we left soon after.

P had lots of fun feeding the birds at the canal

The outside of our hotel in daylight

Guess I would still recommend the hotel for its location

After P had fun feeding the birds, we headed back to our hotel for a short rest and to wrap up in warmer clothes as we really felt quite cold in Amsterdam. We had to take out our ultra heat tech like our northern light chasing in Tromso and I’m so glad those Uniqlo wear was good enough to save us during the trip. We also take a short break back in the hotel room as the previous night we decided to make our dinner booking for 8pm and it was still quite early.

Zeedijk is the popular shopping and red light district

Weed lollipop

Us all wrapped up

We got our souvenirs at a random shop and then it was still 1.5h before our dinner booking so we did a very weird thing (to me). There was a sex museum along the canal area and we decided to go in to take a look. I can remember the ticket price but I think it was reasonable for us to visit randomly.

Poor Mona Lisa

P having fun posing

I found it awkward so I did not do any of these

This peeing lady was quite innovative

One my rare photos here

As expected, there were a lot of erotic literature spread over the 5 or 6 levels and there were quite a few couple. Being conservative Asian, I found it awkward even though I’m a married lady visiting with my husband. I saw a family who went in and I thought it must be very very weird for the parents? Or maybe they didnt feel that way at all. Anyway, it was awkward but a good way to pass our time until 8pm. After getting out, it was time to head back to the same Italian restaurant for our dinner.

Ordered spritzer and soup

The bread were so tempting

Steak was really good

P found the chance to do his signature jump shot
